An accredited investor is a SEBI-recognised category of investor who meets defined income or Net Worth thresholds and obtains formal certification through a SEBI-registered accreditation agency. It is one of the few wealth-based labels in Indian finance with an actual regulatory definition and a certification process behind it.
Accreditation unlocks access to certain investment products, such as some AIFs and PMS structures, with relaxed regulatory safeguards, on the basis that an accredited investor is assumed to be capable of assessing risk independently.
