Am I doing alright compared to people like me? It is the question behind most net worth searches in India, and it is a fair one. A number on its own means very little. ₹80 lakh is a triumph at 30 and a warning at 55.
What follows is a directional read, not a league table. Read on for why that distinction matters more in India than almost anywhere else.
Your position = your net worth measured against the typical range for your age group
The calculator places you against broad bands for people at a similar life stage, and adjusts for the fact that cost of living and asset prices differ enormously between a metro and a smaller city.
A useful cross-check is the planner's rule of thumb, which needs no external data at all:
Expected Net Worth ≈ (your age × your annual pre-tax income) ÷ 10
At 35 earning ₹20 lakh, that suggests around ₹70 lakh. Meaningfully above it and you are saving well. Well below half of it and something structural is usually going on, most often high EMIs or spending that has kept pace with every raise.
This is the honest part, and most sites skip it.
India does not have granular wealth data. The only official survey of household assets and liabilities is the All India Debt and Investment Survey, run by the National Statistical Office, with a reference date of 2018. It gives state-level and rural versus urban splits. It does not give you the median net worth of a 34-year-old product manager in Pune, and neither does anything else.
The research that does model the full distribution, principally the World Inequality Lab's 2024 work covering up to 2022-23, works at national level. It tells you a great deal about how concentrated Indian wealth is and very little about your specific peer group.
So any site showing you a precise average net worth for your exact age, city and profession has estimated it. We would rather give you a wide band and say so than a narrow number that sounds authoritative and is not.
FOLO Tip: Comparison is a compass, not a verdict. The only trajectory worth watching closely is your own, and FOLO keeps that one updating on its own.
