You just got 3 extra days to pay your credit card
If you've ever woken up to a ₹500-₹1,000 late fee because you paid your credit card one day after the due date — that just became history.
RBI announced a mandatory 3-day grace period for all credit card payments. Banks can't charge late fees or report you to CIBIL until the 4th day after your due date.
For context: most banks currently charge ₹500-₹1,000 in late fees the moment you're even one day late.
What this means for you
- If your due date is the 15th, you now have till the 18th to pay — without any penalty or credit score impact.
- That accidental delay (forgot to top-up UPI, salary got delayed, or just missed the reminder) no longer costs you ₹500-₹1,000.
- Your CIBIL score stays untouched during these 3 days — banks can't report late payment until the 4th day.
What you can do
- If you're someone who often cuts it close, this rule just became your safety net — but don't rely on it every month.
- Set your payment reminder for 1 day before the due date — so even if you miss it, you still have 3 days of buffer
This is one of the most practical RBI changes in years. You're protected — just don't let the buffer become a habit.
